Europe, Italy 2 Comments »Siena is a medieval city located in the northern part of Italy. It is located in the region of Tuscany, which is approximately 70 kilometers south of Florence.
Siena is famous for its medieval cityscape and is one of Italy’s most visited tourist attractions. In fact, the historic centre of Siena has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995. One of the main sights in this medieval city is the Duomo or the Cathedral of Siena, a black and white cathedral of Italian Romanesque Gothic architecture. Another architecture jewel here is the Piazza del Campo, a shell shaped town square at the centre of the city. The Piazza del Campo is also the racetrack for the Palio di Siena, a horse race held twice yearly in Siena. Other main sights include the Palazzo Pubblico and the Pinacoteca, just to name a few.

Those arriving by plane can land at airport in Florence. From Florence, the easiest way to get to Siena is by bus. Besides, one can also travel to Siena from Florence by car or train.
