Tunnel Beach is located just 2 kilometers south west of Dunedin in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located off the Dunedin to Brighton coastal road. This coastline south of Dunedin boasts of having high sandstone cliffs, arches and headlands that provide breathtaking views on the ocean.

Tunnel Beach draws its name from a hand carved passage that was built in 1870s through a rock promontory down to a secluded and sheltered beach at the base of the cliffs. Now the 2-kilometer passage has become a walkway which requires approximately 1 hour return walk. However, the Tunnel Beach Walkway is closed for lambing from August to October every year.
